Getting in to some Different Marks too. It’s a collaboration project: German/Polish dj/prod duo Catz’n'Dogz together with UK producer Martin Dawson, who tragically passed away in November last year. Right before that time, Different Marks had just finished their album ‘Untitled’. CnD’s Pets Recording is sharing the album for free and it holds some really brilliant tracks. So we dug up two nice acoustic songs in the past days. And one is a track by Jaymes Young, who performs a darker version of Haddaway’s ‘What Is Love‘. Quite surprising to hear it like this, but it’s pleasant.

Just one more then. Maria Tom and Sanjeev T. are serving up a cover on Daft Punk’s ‘Something About Us’ straight from Bangalore. Doesn’t even make it to three minutes, but sounds great.

But that’s enough acoustic stuff. Future Screens is a band of four from Brooklyn with a new track out just over a week ago. That track is called ‘Outta Sight’, an impressive pop track packed with catchy synth and neo-eighties nostalgia. Eagerly awaiting their next release.

Pretty much the above recipe, minus the drummer: Just add house loops. Swedish producer Tobtok remixes Brooklyn’s Foxe Basin. ‘Seize The Night’ sounds great, Indie band meets French house.

Listened to this, instantly sure it was something whipped up by a Brit. Positive. Tom Bull and JT reworked Mary J. Blidge’s ‘Family Affair’ and dubbed the new remix ‘Holleration’. Sounds crisp, will definitely be in one of the mixtapes.

Bit Funk also delivered another beauty last week, a remix on ‘Drones’ by Night Drive. The track is free, available on Night Drive’s Facebook page. Like to download. You’ll get both the original version and the Bit Funk remix.

Flume and some more Flume. Kaytranada did a pretty effing great edit on Flume’s ‘Holdin’ On’, which was in one of his Boiler Room sets earlier. Last week it finally emerged on several blogs, some of which are still hosting a download link.

Flume himself also did one. Rustie’s ‘Slasherr’ is one big recording by itself. Flume ads some subtle changes, re-ups it for the fans. Delightful.

RAC remixes Gentlemen Hall’s ‘Sail Into The Sun’. Which is nice. Same song, some different instruments. Doesn’t really innovate that much to be honest. Still, solid.

And pretty much in that same corner we find Lincoln Jesser. Pop/synth/funk track titled ‘What You Came For’. Smooth pop music that grows on you after a few listens.

Out with a bang. Today’s last track (Before the honorable mentions) is the remix TC did on Daft Punk’s ‘Get Lucky’. Undoubtedly, floods of Daft Punk remixes will follow, even by Daft Punk themselves. In the meanwhile, this remix should keep you well awake.

This monday, Annie Mac delivers a new free track on her Annie Mac Presents account: The Kry Wolf remix on Josef Salvat’s ‘Hustler’. Subtle house track with a lot of room for Salvat’s tantalizing vocal tracks. This week’s FMM-track follows a week of silence as our fave BBC show host was delivering something quite different. Congratulations Annie Mac!

Another housetrack comes from Dragon Suplex, a Zürich based Dj/prod duo. They’ve been handing out free music for at least a few months now, and some of their work has been signed to We Love This! and Moonboutique records. Their latest free tune is remix on a 1992 classic, ‘Don’t Walk Away‘ by Jade.

More nineties vibes in Viceroy’s Jet Life remix series. Excited to hear another take on Ginuwine’s ‘Pony‘. It’s the sixth remix for the Jet Life Series, deviating from the other five remixes with more Dubstep (Dubstep-ish) influences. Jump on it!

On to Wasington DC producer Brett, who remixes Teen Mom’s ‘I Wanna Go Out‘. Just borrows the vocals from the original, completely renews the instrumental below. Slow, Synthwave, retro stuff.

Mashup. Ryan Hemsworth turned some heads this week with the release of a new free EP, ‘Still Awake’. One of the tracks on that EP carries the elaborate/impossible title ‘(｡◕‿◕｡) (or, I Want To Stare At Your Face Until I Die)’. So Chicago mashup artist Ricky Cervantes used that, and Ellie Goulding’s ‘Anything Could Happen’ acapella. Literal title of the result: ‘♥‿♥’.

So The Magician Kevin Blanc does a nice new rework on Lykke Li Lana Del Rey. (Obligatory reference, does sound a lot like 2011′s ‘I Follow Rivers’ remix..) Still, this is nice to hear. Props to Kevin Blanc for making this work. ‘Young And Beautiful’ is from the Great Gatsby soundtrack. And Kevin Blanc is from France.

Power Soca. Everything about that concept is actually pretty cool, and this remix is really energetic. Major Lazer remixes Macklemore’s ‘Can’t Hold Us’, great original track, amazing artists. And instrumentally, a really fun remix. So far, so good.
But then somewhere in the production process, someone figured to add more vocals. Not Macklemore’s, a brilliant writer. Instead: “So we can do whatever we want, and we can do whatever we like. So we can free the universe.” – Some other vocalist.
This was a brilliant peanut butter sandwich. Someone put his dick in it. Now it’s ruined.

Benny Kane from the Bristol label APEXAPE Records does a quick blend, using Disclosure’s ‘What’s In Your Head’ and Audiojack’s ‘These Days’. Doesn’t really top either of the original tracks, but it’s a great bootlog.

It’s also nice to write a little bit about An-Ten-Nae again. He picks up that Daughter cover on Daft Punk’s ‘Get Lucky’, adding some very An-Ten-Nae-ish instrumental layers. Makes this cover that much more interesting for the bass-fans.

Lancelot launches a new free EP titled ‘You’ll Never Be Mine’. It holds two new tracks, ‘You’ll Never Be Mine’ (based on samples of ‘Just Be Good To Me‘ by SOS Band). The second track goes by the title ‘The Way I Feel About You’ (Based on ‘You’re The Finest‘, also by SOS Band). Pretty cool to see Lancelot pot quite some effort into mentioning the samples he used in the SC-description.

The recent Daft Punk craze (more precisely: ‘The Collaborators’ video series by Creatersproject/Intel/Vice) Definitely renewed our appreciation for Nile Rodgers’ early work. Which makes it that much nicer to find an updated version of the Rodgers produced ‘Lost In Music’ by Sister Sledge. It’s a free bootleg, set up by Belgian producer Dj Licious and his Dutch comrade Beauriche. Heralds a new release by both producers on June 17th on Can You Feel It Records.

Xinobi has been remixing ‘Pale Green Ghosts’ by John Grant. Here’s a reference to the original. Xinobi’s version is smooth, nice bassline and much more upbeat. Grant’s vocals remain a bit haunting. Because, you know, ghosts.

Gabriel Gassi is a producer from Stockholm. He remixes the debut single of a fellow Swedish singer, Kim Cesarion. The track is titled ‘Undressed’, the original is over here. Tastes like Eighties, Italowave and that one movie where Ryan Gosling drives a car.

Madtech Records is sharing the next brilliant record by The Golden Boy, titled ‘Do You‘. BackTheTooFuture is pushing ‘Guilty‘, a track by Ross from Friends. Also quite the minimalistic house track. One last House track: AppleBottom remixes Wild Child’s ‘Renegade Master‘. A bit blunt maybe, but still a good production.

Some Disco/Synth recordings. Eleven:Eleven’s press machine is going full speed, spreading the ‘Excape EP’. It features the original (Freebie) plus eight remixes. And one of those remixes happens to be a Mattanoll remix. Nice to hear one of those again. Track is downloadable if you follow Mattanoll.

Disco/Synth HM. Plastic Plates remixes Para One’s ‘Every Little Thing‘, which also features Irfane and Teki Latex. Built for the glorious reason: ‘I got the acapella as part of a promo for the EP and I couldn’t help myself.’ which is always the best reason to remix.

Third genre: Dubstep. There’s a nice vocal remix out on Dems’ ‘Christabell’ by DeadExit. Pretty much a Dubstep influenced Pop track. Great track if you’re patient enough for the vocal parts.

Dubstep HM. BadKlaat’s ‘Freq Skank‘ gets remixed by Btecnationals. Heavy Artillery Records is sharing the Inst1nctive remix on Marc Remillard’s ‘Fuck Off‘. And Robokop and Lifecycle get together for a track that is titled ‘U Know‘.

Bass stuff. Major Lazer and Avicii throw an interresting edit on ML’s ‘Get Free’. Avicii does a re-edit, boils down to an Aviciiish EDM remix at the pace of your average Moombahton tune, without sounding like a Moombahton. More of this please.

Yesterday Annie Mac presented Chrome Sparks. A Brooklyn producer who shares a surrealistic new track titled ‘Send The Pain On’. Very electronic, and not a dancefloor track. (Unless you really dig doing a waltz.) Quite positive there are (amongst others) samples in there from The Temptations ‘I Wish It Would Rain’.

Polkadot gets his hands on ‘Addicted’ by Brighton band DrDr. Track is available for free on the website of the London label Champion Records, and requires you to leave your email address for future CR-updates. But yeah, worth it because good production.

WMC is almost happening, and we’re getting close to better weather. So justa one. Scandinavian EDM track by Trondheim producer Lars Aar. ‘Walls’ doesn’t have the best set of beats, but does have this large Avicii-ish piano lead. Gets the blood flowing.

HM. Salute does a nice remix on Kyogi’s ‘Carousel‘. And Food Music gives away a free track by Hannah Wants & Chris Lorenzo, ‘None Of Them‘, which makes heavy use of Robyn and Röyksopp’s ‘None Of Dem’.

Sydney singer Elizabeth Rose collaborated with Sinden on ‘Again’, released half a year ago. Today Rose shares an extended version of the remix by Adelaide producer Motez. It looks like she is currently working with Flight Facilities and Gotye, so expecting to post more about this in a near future.

Lots of UK House tracks in the HM today. Sam Divine releases ‘Deserve Me‘, a track featuring Rebecca Knight. Wilhelm’s new bootleg is titled ‘Do You Want It Right Now‘ and there’s an external download link up here. And Kele from bloc Party remixes and Brooklyn band called MS MR with their track ‘Fantasy‘.

In response, a third party torrent link is posted on TorrentFreak. It enables readers to download all 1210 songs that were streamable on the SXSW website, all at once. In a blogpost, TF claims it’s a 7.39GB package of ‘DRM-free, RIAA-safe songs of performing artists‘. Even though the SXSW-crew used to create the torrent themselves in the past, the package holds some pretty big names. (Aeroplane, Bonobo, Flume, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, Wolfgang Gartner, just to name a few.) With tracks in it that are also for sale in the online stores. RIAA will probably not be singing praises about it.

But it reaches people, and if those people have time on their hands to dig through 78 hours of audio material, this is a nice way for the artists involved to score a few extra listeners. Here’s some stuff we found while listening to the package. But instead of torrent links, here are some confirmed and official download links.

Dillon’s ‘Thirteen Thirtyfive’ is a bit older, and has received countless remixes. (One we featured in this mixtape) Turns out the original is a free download on Official FM, through a link hosted by Dillon herself. Find her here on SXSW.

Trails and ways became a giant red dot on our radar when ‘Mt. Tune’ came out, a free track we posted earlier. Although all of their music ends up on iTunes, some tracks can be downloaded for free once you’ve liked their Facebook page. Catch them in Austin.

You Won’t is a duo from Cambridge, MA. They have their debut album ‘Sceptic Goodbye’ out on Old Flame Records. And that label is sharing their SXSW track ‘Television’ for free. You Won’t will be performing here.

Bestfriends is a duo from Chicago, their track ‘Just Goodbye‘ is featured in the SXSW package. It is also one of six tracks on their Soundcloud page, and seems to be the only free track. They will go here on SXSW.
Speak is a band who will be performing close to home on SXSW. They are an Austin band of four and they have a free track up on their website titled ‘Carrie‘, from their album ‘I Believe In Everything’. Even comes with a great RAC remix. Their SXSW times.
You will also be able to see Goldroom live. Twice even. Goldroom’s ‘Fifteen’ features Melbourne vocalist Chela and it’s part of the package. It is also free, even though you’ll need to hand over a Facebook like first. Even better, the acapella is also still available for free.

As a little bonus, there’s a long list of awesome SXSW tracks we couldn’t find official download links for, but they are for sale on iTunes. Just to be complete, here’s a list of awesome tracks from SXSW this year, together with the official buy links. Just because it’s good to know them.

House HM.Trill Scott Heron screws like he’s screwed many tracks before. This time the Breakage remix on Plan B’s ‘Prayin‘ gets the TSH treatment. And Off Recordings shares Amir’s ‘So Sweet‘, basically a remix on Erykah Badu’s ‘Honey’.

Electronic. Yelle is spreading the Siriusmo remix on ‘Les Femmes’. Strangely unsettling piano track at some points, particularly at the start. Progresses into this sort of elastic electronic track. Siriusmo-strange, but very cool. French lyrics somehow also still get bonus points.

Electronic/EDM HM. Blood Diamonds also returns for a remix. More of a synthy version on Major Lazer’s ‘Get Free‘, a track that particularly stood out thanks to the vocal work by Amber Coffman. Same story goes for the remix. Good production, wouldn’t be very significant without the acapella. Lindbergh Palace shares their production for Azealia Banks, ‘Barely Legal‘. Dublin Aunts remix Christopher Norman & The Reverb Junkie’s ‘You Don’t Know‘. Funkerman beefs up Moloko’s ‘The Time Is Now‘ for big rooms and (main)stages. Pretty similar to the original at breakdowns, but builds up to a well-produced EDM climax.

Extrapella for the remixers: BT is sharing the superglitch acapella on his on track ‘Somnabulist‘.

Really digging these deep tracks lately. DFA Records have made the download link available on the Barker & Baumecker remix of Sinkane’s ‘Warm Spell’. Original version here. Expect this to be on the next mixtape.

HM. Boy Kid Cloud’s new track is titled ‘My Last Breath‘, dubstep track with lots of melody and good vocals. Red Bull Music Academy (Germany) are giving away a more than decent Ta-Ku remix on Ginger & The Ghost’s ‘One Type Of Dark‘. And the Jeffrees label is giving away a four track EP by Yellow Claw today, titled ‘Amsterdam Trap Music‘. Nothing too surprising, but nice.

Another slow disco track comes from Hey Champ. Vocal track that gets most of it’s energy from synthlines (1.25, 2.15, 3.40). Female vocals are the work of BeuKes, a singer who resides in Chicago. Free Hey Champ track titled ‘Comet’.

Shadows On Stars is Randa Leigh and Brian Vincent, a duo from Portland. They cover an older Lykke Li, ‘Little Bit’. They released a debut album last year, which was also titled ‘Shadows On Stars’. The second album is still to be released, updates can be found here.

HM. Alan Braxe gets a remix by Dr. Gonzo on his track ‘Timemachine‘. This also happens on Kraak & Smaak’s ‘The Future Is Yours‘, remix by Ambassadeurs. And Russian Summer Of Haze drops a nice original titled ‘8∆by Kush‘.

Disco. Annie Mac premiered a little disco surprise this week, named SOPHIE. It’s a mashup of two of SOPHIE’s tracks, ‘EEEHHH’ and ‘Nothing More To Say’. Listen to both original tracks here. SOPHIE also wins a best website of the year award.

Disco HM. Another one of the French Horn Rebellion remixes is for FM Attack. Cosmic Kids remix Local Natives on ‘Breakers‘. Funk Leblanc is a producer from San Fransisco who’s said to have been djing for fifteen years. Although all of his Social pages look pretty new, so could’ve been someone else in the past. He remixes BlondFire’s ‘Where The Kids Are‘ for an Indaba contest. Downloads maxed out unfortunately, will repost if a new link appears. Swedish Shemusic has a nice free track up titled ‘Since You Left‘. Closing the Disco stuff with this nice Moonlight Matters rework on Electric Guest’s ‘The Bait‘.

Bass/Trap. Bird Peterson remixes what is prehaps Solid Groove’s biggest classic to date. As Solid Groove that is, people might also know him as David Taylor, an old Major Lazer producer or Switch. Like many records, ‘This Is Sick’ gets the trap treatment. Nice way to refresh, although you might want to hear the original too.

Bass/Trap HM. Marumasa does ‘Roll Out‘, not quite the gerne breaking stuff it is said to be but yes, this is a very cool production, even though a bit short. Dominic Pierce uploads an older 2012 project ‘Special‘, equally nice.

Dubstep. Figure does a huge huge remix on Aesop Rock’s ‘Coffee’. Comes in two versions, the original can be found below. And the Instrumental version alone works just as well, get that one here. And for those who like transitions, Tolgar throws in an extra edit that takes is back and forth between 145 and 170 BPM. You know, dj tools.

Dubstep HM. Mixmag is also giving away quite a nice dubstep track, the Swindle remix on Hadouken’s ‘Levitate‘.

Remixers, get your paws on Jamiroquai’s ‘Too Young To Die’ remix contest. Not only gets you the chance to work with Jamiroquai remix stems, but from the looks of it they really have their sponsors and prizes sorted out. Worth a shot.

Niels Docter is Doctr, an Amsterdam based dj/prd who remixes Mr. Oizo’s ‘Steroids’. Starts out as a pretty flat house track, but becomes increasingly better with every additional synth line that’s added throughout the entire track. Also has a nice change of pace at the very end. Lovely.

House HM. Look Like is giving away ‘Ghetto Fruits‘. Future Motions release a vocal track together with Linton Brown which has a nice buildup and growls quite a bit. Kraak & Smaak also on a deephouse vibe with their remix on their own brilliant ‘The Future Is Yours‘ which features Ben Westbeech on vocals. Major club track by Cause & Affect titled ‘Pull Up In My Whip‘. Sounds like something from the Dirty Bird label, features old Missy samples. Last house track comes from Jetlag, who remix ‘Technicolor Heart‘ by Anneka.

Which is a nice transition into the disco-ey stuff. Keljet rolls out a new release this week titled ‘Tottenham Court Road’. Track for synthpop lovers. Apparently it’s an older project that finally saw light of day after sitting in Keljet’s ‘unfinished’ folder for quite a while.

Disco HM. Erkka is giving away this pretty little panflute stomper titled ‘Take Me Dancing‘, a remix on Lucky Stripes. Manilla Killa is also remixing, doing his own version of The XX’s ‘Angels‘. Sam Padrul delivers a happy uptempo version of Passion Pit’s ‘Carried Away‘. Last disco track: JKriv’s Alter Ego Mix on The Right Now’s ‘Call Girl‘.

(Actual) Songs. Everything about this is Fleet Foxes, except for the fact that it issn’t Fleet Foxes. Port Isla is an unsugned band from Norwich, UK. Their new track is free and it’s titled ‘Adventurers’.

Song HM. Dave Dresden, better known as half of the duo Gabriel & Dresden is giving away gifts. One of those little packages is an acoustic version of ‘Imagination’, a track by Motorcycle. Motorcycle itself is just G&D, together with singer Jes. Also up, pop track by LA artist Ryan McDermott which is called ‘Joy‘. And Mad Decent sublabel Jeffrees is sharing three new tracks from old Popo-frontman Jahan Lennon. Closing with a beautiful piano arrangement by Dirk Maassen, ‘The Gate‘.

And Acapellas for those who like: Avicii, Project 46, You & Daphne’s ‘crime‘ is up for download. Second acapella comes from Royal Sapien and is titled ‘Truth‘.

Today is a good day. Post kickoff is for the Montreal duo Love Thy Brother. They put out a remix on One Republic’s ‘If I Lose Myself’. Takes it away from it’s original radio sound with some Synthpop/Dubstep-ish influences. Description says “..it’s impossible to categorize their electronic reinterpretation.” Nope, Dubstep Power Balad it is.

Word from Smarterchild. He’s been doing more studio sessions lately, some of those together with Brooklyn artists MDNT and Jez Dior. Which makes him the producer behind ‘Dreamcatcher’, a new track by MDNT & Dior. Slightly darker production, slow-paced, and beautiful layered vocals by MDNT. Reminds of some earlier work by Smarterchild. Also credit where credit is due, high quality music video by Colin Kelly.

Speaking of doing plenty of studio sessions, London singer/producer Clara La San works out some more music too. Two tracks in fact, titled ‘Friends’ and ’1 Night’. That first one adopts this neat little J Dilla production, which you can hear below. Of all tracks in the past month it’s one of the lighter songs. And that’s ten quality songs in one month.

Pete Oak freshens up Justin Timberlake’s ‘Like I Love You’ the right way. Slow guitar-infused, could-be soundtrack to a Mission impossible/Rain Man mashup. (Would watch.) Download link is tricky though, probably maxed out by now. Hoping for an alternative link.
